Tuition and Fees

OPTION #1 - FULL TUITION PAYMENT

Full tuition for the Fall and Winter tuition must be paid by the Fall term deadline to avoid installment charges. Students who have not paid their fees in full by this due date, or made satisfactory alternate arrangements, will be assessed late payment penalty charges.

OPTION #2 - PAYROLL DEDUCTION OF TUITION

** If you do not wish to have deductions off of your cheque, your tuition must be paid in full by the Fall term deadline. **

The University's payroll system automatically deducts outstanding tuition and fees from the pay cheques of graduate teaching and research assistants a month after the start of Fall and Winter terms. That is, any Fall and Winter tuition owing as of October 1 will be deducted from the student's October, November and December pay cheques in six installments (bi-monthly pay processing). As the first cheque in October (October 10th) reflects earnings from September 16th thru 30th, the first deductions for fall term will be from pay that is earned in the last 15 days of September. Your tuition deduction can consist of up to 80% of your salary or 1/6 of the outstanding balance (whichever is less). Simply put, if a student has a GRA and/or GTA and would like these deductions to happen, just don't pay any tuition by the Fall term due date.

Students registered in the Spring/Summer terms will have deductions on their May, June, July and August pay cheques unless all tuition is paid by Spring term deadline.

This is a mandatory program and can not be opted out of and will automatically happen if there is a tuition balance as of October 1st. Only Graduate TA's and RA's qualify for payroll deductions. As indicated above, if you do not wish to have deductions from your pay, all tuition must be paid buy the Fall term deadline. Please review the Major Dates and Deadlines in the University of Alberta Calendar.
