The Basics

The Elementary Education Capstone Exercise is a chance to celebrate and share your experience(s), your learning and growth, and an opportunity to reflect on where you started and where you will go next. You have already succeeded, and we are celebrating you and your success, so please stay grounded in that wonderful truth. Put another way: You already did the hard work!  Now, you can take this opportunity to reflect upon the different parts of your program that have been most memorable and meaningful to/for YOU.

Think about all the connections (with people, ideas, places etc.), course topics, assignments, and your journey overall and decide what you would most like to share from those connections and from that journey. Please consider that sometimes the most impactful part of our learning process can be found in what surprised us or challenged our original assumptions; it can also live in what we are still curious and wondering about even after so much hard work.

Format

You are expected to create a 5-7 minute presentation. The format of your presentation is entirely up to you and could be anything from a series of cue cards to digital slides (i.e. Canva, Google Slides, Keynote, PowerPoint etc.) to a single poster-style presentation with an old-school laser pointer. You may present live during your designated presentation window but are also free to pre-record your presentation and play the recording. Please present in a way that will help you honour what you most want to share about your Master’s program.

Submission

You will be asked to upload the presentation to eClass or email it to the course instructor the day before you present.

Community

Elementary Education faculty and graduate students will be invited to attend and be your audience to help you celebrate this final task of your graduate program. You are encouraged to invite friends and family members who would like to hear your presentation and celebrate you.

Feedback

Each Capstone Presentation will be given a window of 20 minutes so that there will be time for your community to share their thoughts and wonders and to allow for conversation. We know that gatherings like this have their own rhythms, but please do stay mindful of your fellow presenters and our intended timing for proceedings so that everyone has the same opportunity to share and benefit from some conversation about their work.

Zoom

Zoom is used for the Capstone presentations, and a link will be provided by the instructor prior to the presentation dates. If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, Information Services and Technologies (IST) has created guides for delivering online lectures, including several resources for Zoom. If there are technical glitches or issues, we're here to support you, and we will work it out together.

eClass

Additional information will be posted to eClass by the instructor.
