Who was your community partner, and can you describe the project objectives?
Future Energy Systems
A game that teaches kids about renewable energy sources. The objective was for kids to learn how to utilize those sources depending on the different environments.
What was the biggest takeaway from your CSL placement?
While developing games for children sometimes you need to approach them differently, so you add different features that would make them accessible for them. It is important to have someone that understands the needs of the end user.
How can you apply any newly gained knowledge/skills to your future endeavours (courses/employment/volunteering)?
It was fun learning while interacting with a client, so I know that I can use this new experience to work with multiple clients and understand their needs.
Why should students consider being involved with CSL, and how does it enhance their academic learning?
Having a CSL placement was great to get volunteering, work and academic experience!
During your CSL placement, can you share the knowledge and skills you developed in relation to climate change mitigation or sustainability activities?
I learned about the different energy sources that are the most useful depending on the cities from canada. I also learned that some energy sources might be or not be renewable depending on the definition used.
How did you and your community partner meet project objectives that were aligned with environmentally conscious goals?
Our community partner aimed to teach kids about the future renewable energy sources that might be useful for the future.
In partnership with the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER), and with support from the Government of Canada, CSL provides financial support to environmentally-focused community partners for their educational and mentoring roles with CSL students.
