Summary: This week we were working towards concluding the manufacturing process of the pieces for our bike's skeleton. We finished CNCing, fixed/smoothed any parts that the machine made an error, and started assembling the pieces onto the bike. We are connecting each part with a wooden rod that connects perpendicularly to each piece, that way no pieces will be moving around. Over break we also researched how to make the LED lights more mobile and not needing to constantly be connected to an outlet, and we found a power source that has the correct voltage (5V), wattage (90W), and amperage (18A). Because we have little prior experience with LED lights and this particular power source, we spent the week talking with peers, ordering newer/better compatible wires, and figuring out how to connect them with the LED strip.
Plan for the Next 2 Weeks: In the next 2 weeks we plan to finish assembling the bike and coat our exterior to give it a more realistic and cohesive finish. We also plan to attach our LED system to the bike by then.
Monday:
PLTW Step: Develop & Construct
Cut Out Pieces
Neda: CNC wheel components
Venice: Made sure LEDs are still functional after break and compatible with the app
Kaitlyn: cut out additional CNCd parts using the X-acto knife and cutting board
Tuesday:
PLTW Step: Develop & Construct
Finished Cut out Components
Nedas & Kaitlyn: CNC parts for skeleton of the bike and cut out dimensions with table saw
Venice: Try and see how voice control pairs with the lights and the app
--> Poor compatability because "google microphone" has a pop-up that blocks the buttons and large portion of the screen
Wednesday:
PLTW Step: Develop & Construct
Top View of Wheel Assembly
Neda & Kaitlyn: Finish CNCing our final pieces for the bike's exterior
Venice: met with peers to figure out power source and ordered new wires for LEDs
Thursday:
PLTW Step: Construct
Side View of Base Assembly so Far
Neda: Start assembling the front half of the bike's skeleton
Venice & Kaitlyn: Absent for field trip
Friday:
PLTW Step: Construct & Test
Side View of assembly with Extra Wheel that was CNCd
Neda & Kaitlyn: Assemble the front half of the bike's skeleton
Kaitlyn: Finish cutting out the final wheel for the back wheels
Venice: Update project website/documents
