It is my belief that students learn best when they feel comfortable, welcomed, and safe. Teachers are the adults that students spend a majority of their time with, so it is imperative that teachers cultivate meaningful relationships with each of their students.
Children are molded by the behaviors that they see everyday in their lives. It is only natural that they emulate what they observe. My goal as a teacher is to help students find their passion in learning, become intrinsically motivated, and allow them to be an active part of their learning.
Aside from meaningful relationships amongst students and teachers, I believe that the primary purpose for educators is to help students learn to think for themselves. Learning how to think is an important skill that is the basis for navigating through everyday life.
I believe that each student brings something extraordinary to the classroom which encompasses a diverse environment. Diversity should be welcomed and celebrated in the classroom. I will teach my students that differences are what makes everyone unique. I will teach them to be kind, empathetic and respectful to people of all backgrounds by modeling desired citizenship, and accepting, learning and teaching about different cultures and abilities.
I believe that every student has the ability to learn, but learning may look differently for each student. Specific student expectations should be based on each child's individual learning needs. In order to set individual expectations, I will assess my students both formally and informally to track their learning progress. I will then confer with my students and discuss individual learning goals which will allow my students the opportunity to take charge of their own learning.
In closing, I believe that each student is impacted by the teacher, while the teacher is impacted by each student. I am confident that my passion for student growth combined with my teaching methods will allow me to become a successful educator who will leave an amazing impact on all students.
