Snapsheet (SS) is a damage appraisal company specializing in property damage. They write estimates using photos and communicate with shops to review and approve supplements. Snapsheet is the US and CA market's primary repair path.
When to Use:
The vehicle is drivable (not a potential total loss)
Cosmetic damage only
Both interior and exterior damage
Additional Notes:
1. Snapsheet cannot write estimates in Massachusetts (MA) for over $1,500 or Rhode Island (RI) for over $2,500. If the estimate is over those amounts, Snapsheet will send the associate an email informing them the estimate cannot be completed.
2. Snapsheet cannot write estimates in Quebec.
As the name suggests, this is when we ask the owner to get an estimate for the claimed damage. We don't use this in most scenarios because the estimate is not provided by a 3rd party independent vendor, meaning it could be inflated/biased. With that being said, there are specific scenarios when we will request this.
When to Use:
Tire repair or replacement (if provided before completing the bullet ICR)
Minor mechanical claims after confirming coverage via Centro or a diagnostic
Glass claims where the owner prefers not to or can't use Safelite / Belron
US: Always double check by getting a quote through Safelite's website to confirm the price is reasonable
MA or RI physical damage claims above $3,000 in value, but below the major damage threshold
Key claims
For general claims, associates are allowed to pay up to $1,000 on OPE. Any amounts above that, will need to utilize one of the approved repair paths.
Due to limited repair paths in New York, associates handling New York claims For New York claims, are allowed to pay up to $2,000 on OPE.
SCA and Vista/Sedgwick Appraisal are two auto damage appraisers and inspection providers for the insurance industry. They specialize in sending someone out in-person to inspect and appraise damage.
When to Use:
Vehicles with heavy impact damage above 75k in ACV
Examples:
Significant front end impact with fluids leaking
Impact damage on multiple panels
Exotic vehicles
MA or RI physical damage claims above $1,500 in value
Supplement requests from abusive shops or that seem highly inflated/questionable (IE, broken tabs from a minor impact or on the other side of the vehicle)
Vandalism/keyed vehicle claims where the damage is difficult to assess via photographs
Claims with confirmed off-roading where more than 3 panels are damaged
Safelite is a glass company that operates nationwide to provide mobile windshield and window replacement services. We have a partnership with Safelite to get better rates, and we utilize them as a repair path for glass only claims. For the full process on how to submit for Safelite, click here.
When to Use:
Glass only claims (includes windows, front, and rear windshields)
Honorable mention:
Centro specializes in in-person mechanical inspections. They are a great tool to use when a claim has been submitted with any mechanical components and it is not clear if the guest is at fault. Centro will send out an inspector to review the vehicle and complete a comprehensive diagnostic on the cause of the failure. You should only utilize this service after you have reviewed the owner’s mechanical diagnostic and the report is inconclusive or does not indicate the guest is at fault. You can find more information about Centro and how to use here.
When to use:
Mechanical claims when it is not clear if the guest is at fault or the guest is disputing
Additional Notes:
Centro is listed as an honorable mention because it's technically not an appraisal vendor. Centro does not write estimates or estimate how much damage will cost. Their purpose is to determine the cause of damage only. Therefore, if we receive a Centro report that confirms a guest is at fault, we will request an owner estimate for the appraisal path.
