Looking at the situation we are in right now, where we are all recommended to stay at home, all I can do is think about the wonderful moments I spent with my friends and family in the past. This was what led me to decide on the theme for my exhibition; my body of work explores different ideas revolving memories. As interesting things happen each day and different experiences are gained, those moments are kept in our memories. Through my artworks, I want the audience to be reminded of the importance and how much memories affects them.
Taking inspiration from my surroundings, I was able to create 4 artworks which explores different ideas of memories. The arrangement of my artworks are replaced in no particular order. The first piece, Capturing Fractures, symbolizes all the fragments in one’s life that are remembered. Essentially, when making memories, the easiest tool to use would be a camera which records anything, which is why the subject is holding a camera, in this artwork. Reminiscing Moments illustrates an image of the past, as seen from the sepia colours used in the digital artwork. This artwork focuses on colour choice to show the theme of memory. Longing to repeat a moment in the past, especially when things are going not as planned at the moment, is a normal thing to do. The next artwork, Slipping Away, have two blurry subjects as the centrepiece. I wanted to show that forgetting good times is part of growing up. Some memories may last a long time, but some doesn’t. Lastly, Memento, is a not just an oil painting still life as there are symbolisms in the objects drawn. This painting is expressing the basic items that everyone has, used to keep track of life events.
Throughout the artwork making process, trial and errors are done to find the perfect media and color scheme to be applied. My main medium of choice is digital artworks and oil paintings. All of my pieces focus on values to give dimension, texture, and life to the artworks, in order to make it more unique for the audience. Variety of colours are utilized which allows different moods on each artwork, however still coherent with one another. Exploring different styles such as realism, cubism, and also making still life shows variation of art styles, allowing the audience to gain more interest in my artworks.

Digital Art
As humans, there are important moments in life to be remembered. This digital art combines cubism and realism, which takes inspiration from people surrounding me who enjoy capturing moments in their lives. The main idea of this artwork is to show the urge of remembering small parts of your lives and keep them in your memory. The cubism technique in the background shows the fragments, and a dull skin tone color palette is used to show a sense of ownership, meaning those fractures belongs to you.

Focusing on the colors used, the sepia and dark colors in the artwork shows something of the past, giving off a nostalgic mood. This artwork uses a limited color palette and therefore it solely focuses on the values, shadows, and highlights present to give a three-dimensional look. Keeping the background dark, with a slight vignette effect, it allows all the attention to be directed at the subject. This artwork shows the urge to go back to the past and live in that memory.

Memories either stay or slip away. However, forgetting good times is a normal part of growing up. Capturing the essence of slipping away from a memory is seen by the blurry subjects which adds texture and curiosity to the artwork. Notice that the background is left not blurry to represent that places remain, but it is humans who have a hard time on grasping this particular memory.
Artwork 4

Oil on canvas
A still life of a shelf with different objects on the surface to show different tools to store memories. Frames are drawn as a symbol for memories of anything visible; the books or journals document parts of your life. Those objects are mementoes of life events which are kept. The usage of small brushstrokes show details in each of the objects present. The warm tones of the wood is balanced with the cool tone of the other aspect of the painting causing a calming effect for the audience.
