Curatorial Rationale

My artworks follow the theme of dreams that influences person's state of mind. Growing up, I have always been interested towards dreams, every time I sleep a dream pops up. Some of these dreams are happy and funny but sometimes are sad, which led me to thinking is a person's dream be influenced by the persons state of mind? Dreams can be related to the thoughts that were inside our minds. The vision I am going for is the dreams that people have and their relations to the state of mind.

In the creation of these artworks while also following the theme by using mediums such as digital art, acrylic and animation. Due to my theme being related to humans I try to create the main point of the art by having human anatomy and using the environment around the human to emphasize the state of mind of the host.

The exhibition starts from the top, with the first artwork called “Haunting Regret”, which explores of past experiences of people who went through tough times in life. Dreams receive some influence from a person’s state of mind, regret is the most influential emotion to a person’s dream and it depends on how impactful the experience is and how deep the regret is. The next artwork is an artwork which was inspired by an animated music video called Shelter. The animation tells the tale of a girl who creates her own world in this device but was all alone and so, I created the artwork called the “The Lonely Creator”. Since the theme is dreams from the state of mind, this person is imaginative and creates a world they envisioned but was not happy since he feels alone. The next artwork is “A Janitor’s Dream”. This artwork explores the views from someone who is not so fortunate in life, even so the person still dreams to be something else and be at the spotlight. The man does not have any fancy clothes and old but loves to dream. I mostly followed a quote “A dream is a wish one heart makes”, this quote led me to creating “A Janitor’s Dream”. The last artwork is an animation called “Loop” where a person wakes up to find nothing inside the room. This state of mind is trying to represent a person who is comatose to keep on waking up but not in reality.

"Haunting Regret"

Throughout life a person experiences a lot of things. Most of these things people would come to regret later. Some of these regrets can be related to someone who is close to you, maybe something happened to them and you wish to change it if you could. These regrets will come by in dreams as nightmares. Even as you fall apart or die these regrets will not disappear until you absolve these issues.

"Lonely Creator"

To be able to control inside of our dreams is a luxury for artists, as well as for other people. A lucid dream is a perfect canvas for an artist to create a world that they have envisioned. The beauty that is created from their imagination is most likely to be astonishing, that will most likely bring happiness. Except there are those who are not able to feel happiness in the world they created. Loneliness is something terrifying and sometimes that feeling can make things seem bland and empty.

"A Janitor's Dream"

Everyone has a dream to do things they wished to do. Even those who are in a much lesser hierarchy. A Janitor whose wish was to be a pianist was only able to enjoy it after the show is over. With no crowd to be seen just a man in a trance flowing with the music of the piano even though everything else around him is starting to be blurry. This is when a person enjoys the experience when time and reality start to blur and forget about the worries that are happening in the world.

"Loop"

A lot of people hate to be in a state where you are stuck doing the same thing repeatedly as it is a boring feeling and can be scary sometimes but the feeling of never waking up again is scarier. It is an odd feeling of being comatose, there are some cases of a person who is comatose to have their lives flash before their eyes and dream, but if you were to combine them both as well as having them on repeat, it could drive someone to insanity.
