My exhibition expresses the main focus of depression by presenting different perceptions in each artwork. Through my artwork, I want to show how depression is only in their minds, and how it has been caused by the burden they are living with. I also want to show how there's still a chance for them to get out of depression.
It begins with my first piece, Who Am I?, the piece shows how people do what others expect them to do to satisfy the people around them. People keep pulling their minds in different directions, making them lost to their own world. Which brings us to my second piece, Money Minded, it shows how people only focus on money because they think that wanting to satisfy others requires a lot of money. They feel that their pride is number one, so it's all right to spend a lot of money on something that's useless just for their pride. It could be a burden of life. This life burden can be on debt, because spending a lot of money is one of the causes of debt, as shown in my third artwork, Mind Burden. The third piece talks about how the burdens of life can make you stressed and depressed. Many people try to consume a lot of sleeping pills because they think it's going to calm down the stress, but it doesn't do any good. This burden of life can also make us addicted to something that is not healthy for us. This leads to my fourth artwork, False Hope, which shows how stressed people think of something, such as smoking, that makes them calmer is actually helpful to reduce their stress, but the truth is that it isn't. The next piece, Double Mind, shows how sometimes people who dive into something miserable want to change themselves to be a better person when they look in the mirror, but some part of them still have those negative thoughts that can hold back so that they don't change. This can also lead to my next piece, Hollow Mind, with depression and their negative thoughts, thinking that they are becoming more and more bound to darkness, which is actually just an illusion in their minds. The seventh piece, Glimmer of Hope, shows that there is still hope in the darkness. It depends on themselves whether or not they want to take the chance to start a new beginning. This leads to my final artwork, Faith Hope Love, which shows that there is still hope for people who suffer from depression to change if they are supported by faith and love from others.
Several of my artworks were made digitally, and I also used acrylic paint for other artworks. Mostly, I used both of the mediums because both of them are the ones I'm comfortable working with. It's easier for me to express my ideas and thoughts deeply in the form of digital work. For example, from my piece, Double Mind and False Hope, I can express the expression better than the artworks that I use with acrylic paint.
I was inspired by the story of my dad and the feelings he had experienced when he was in his early days. He told me about his journey suffering from depression, but he was able to get out of it. He also learned to be better than before and try not to overthink. I'm showing the storyline from his story through all the pieces I've made. It gives a glimpse of the story he told me about.
Who Am I?

In this life, many people do not have the right direction for their life's goals, because they listen more to others who do not comply with their own abilities, which can become a burden in life. They're doing what other people expect from them. Their eyes cannot see the limits of their self-worthiness. People keep pulling their mind into different directions, which makes them lost in their own world.

Just because of the desire to be praised and to satisfy others, the mind is directed only toward money to increase people's expectations. Many people are worried only with their own value and pride. So they're doing everything they can to make more money. They think that having a lot of money can bring happiness, but it can lead to a burden of life, as well. The expression in the artwork symbolized the tiredness of doing everything just for money.

There will be a lot of things in our lives that make us down, such as debts. Desire is one of the reasons for that. Desire to want something worthless just for pride. It actually cost a lot of money. In which this can be the result of a large amount of debt and cost, this can put a lot of burden on the mind. Sleeping pills are one of the things that relieves the burden. Many people consume lots of sleeping pills just to calm down their burden, but the pills can harm their body.

When people have a lot of things in their minds, they're starting to do things that aren't good for them, such as smoking. They thought that smoking could relieve the burden on their minds, but instead they would fall even more into frustration. The tear and the expression represent her sad feelings. The cigarette itself symbolizes her way to release all of her frustration.

There are parts of us who want to change for the better when we look at ourselves in the mirror. But sometimes other parts of us think differently. Many people suffering from depression want to change themselves to be better, but they don't have the consistency to get better, their minds are easily defeated by their negative thoughts and insatiable self-will. The red colored girl symbolizes the girl's negative side reflection, filled with negative thoughts.

As there is no willingness to change for the better, people who suffer from depression will become more and more tied to darkness which is actually just an illusion in their mind. They feel their whole life is very dark. They feel that life is stuck and that there is no way out of this dark life. They feel lonely. They feel that nobody will be there for them when they are miserable and depressed. In the artwork, loneliness is portrayed by the pose and the gloomy environment around it.

In the darkness, there is a wonderful glimpse of hope in the trapped mind. If they have the will to open themselves to change, they will see a beautiful hope for the real world. The opened zipper symbolizes people who have opened themselves to be better off. But they're still scared to change, symbolized by the prison with their hands. The flowers and butterflies symbolize happiness outside. The yellow color also represents joy and happiness.

There is a hope for them to change from the desires and burdens of people's lives that lead to the drowning into addictions that are bad for their lives. In which this hope can be accompanied by FAITH and LOVE. Faith and love are changing people who feel depressed to feel loved. The rope with the shape of the heart symbolizes love, and the cross symbolizes faith. The white color symbolizes the hope for a new beginning out from the dark life.
