At the end of each year, band students are required to submit a Performance Review.
A Performance Review is NOT an audition or an exam.
The purpose of the review is to provide individual feedback to each child about their playing and progress over the year.
The reviews also allow Mr Rowland to assess the abilities of the students and select appropriate music in the new year.
Mr Rowland has created Performance Review sheets appropriate to each band level and instrument. These can be found here: Performance Reviews 2024. Select the relevant band, then instrument.
Print out the review sheet
Start practising! It is a good idea to take the review sheet to the music tutor so they can help. More information about the review sheet is below.
When your child is comfortable and confident with the review sheet music, make a video recording of them playing through the sections. More information about video recordings is below.
Submit your video file to Mr Rowland via this Google form: https://forms.gle/3ATsWPw3gYsqfRbh6 (more information about this form is below). Submissions to be made by Wednesday 15 January, 2025.
Mr Rowland will record audio feedback for the review and email it to the address you included in your submission form.
You and your child can listen to the feedback and be proud of their progress over the year!
Each review sheets contains several sections. All sections must be recorded.
Section 1: Scales (wind instruments and bass guitar) or Rhythms (percussion)
Section 2: Set piece. A short piece of music provided by Mr Rowland on the review sheet
Section 3: Own choice piece. Select a piece of music that you have played during the year that is NOT a band piece. You only need to play a few lines (about 30 seconds) of the piece.
Section 4: Wind instruments and bass guitar only: Challenges. In your instrument folder there is a 'Challenges' document containing several short pieces of music. Select one of these challenges to play.
Section 5: Percussion only: Own choice piece. Select another piece of music you have played during the year that is NOT a band piece., or the piece selected for Section 3. You only need to play a few lines (about 30 seconds) of the piece.
The recording does not need to be fancy, simple video on your phone is adequate.
Make sure the musician and their instrument can be seen, and it is a clear sound recording.
Only one video is needed so please record the entire review as one. If recording each part separately, use an app or software to combine them into one before submitting.
Using the submission form, either upload your video or provide a link to where it can be viewed (eg Google Drive, iCloud).
The form requires the names of the child and their tutor
You need to be logged into your Google account to upload video
Video recording: You can either upload your video via the form or provide a link where it can be viewed (eg Google Drive, iCloud).
If the form is not working, email Mr Rowland at tpsbands@outlook.com with the following details: student name, tutor name and a link to the video.
