Kindergarten News

2023-2024

Welcome to Miss Brose's Kindergarten Class website!

We are so excited to welcome our students back for Trinity's 70th school year!

On this website you will be able to find a recap of what we learned the previous week, upcoming important dates and reminders, homework assignments, and resources for parents such as the school calendar and handbook.

Thank you to all our Kindergarten families for connecting to ClassDojo!

If you haven't checked out the class' page yet, it is a great place to see daily pictures and updates. You are also able to comment on pictures and send messages to me in the app.

From the student view, your child can change how their monster looks, practice typing, draw digital images, and submit photos to me.

Please keep in mind you do not have to opt into the paid portion of ClassDojo to do any of the things required for class.

March 8th - March 24th was Spring Break!

Recap of what we learned March 4th - March 7th:

Bible Study - We learned the story of Jesus Prays and is Arrested from the Gospels and the story of Jesus before Pontius Pilate from the Gospels

Bible Words for the week: "Watch and pray." Matthew 26:41

Central Truth: Jesus Prays and is Arrested- We cannot put our confidence in ourselves to live faithfully. The only sure thing is the grace of God in Christ.

Jesus before Pontius Pilate - Jesus is the holy Son of God, who alone can save us from sin and death.

Grade-Level Truth: Jesus Prays and is Arrested- Jesus willingly followed God's plan for the salvation of His people.

Jesus before Pontius Pilate - Jesus was declared guilty because of our sins so that we might be declared not guilty in God's sight.

ELA - Since it was the last week of the quarter, we reviewed everything we had learned and worked on end of the quarter assessments. Here are the main skills we reviewed below.

We continued working on letter teams. Two letters that work together to make a new sound. We reviewed  "ch", "th" and "sh" listening for it at the beginning and ending of words. We even watched some videos to help us practice the sounds. We also reviewed the two sounds that the letter team "th" makes. The soft (not buzzy) sound like in math and the buzzy sound like in this. We learned about the sound the letter teams "ng" and "qu" make.

We began learning tricky words as well. These words we know we are not able to sound out because they do not follow out letter rules or patterns. We know we can spell the word but then we just need to read the word. This week's tricky words were the and of. We practiced these words with interactive notebook pages and the kids noticed them in our different activities throughout the week.

We continued practicing how vowels sometimes say their name rather than their vowel sound. We learned that when there is a consonant (or a few consonants) after a vowel it will say its vowel sound - closed door, but if there are no consonants after the vowel, the vowel will say its name - open door.

Students continued practicing that sometimes letter s tries to trick us by borrowing letter z's sound. Students also learned that 's helps us to know ownership and we learned that sometimes an s at the end of the word makes it mean more than one. Students have been working to read words with 4 and 5 letter sounds. We also continued working on our "pinch and tuck" pencil hold.

Math -We began working on the next module in math. This is our pre-addition skills. We started talking about looking at a whole picture and looking for the parts in it. Then we practiced how to organize this info on the page.
