Kindergarten News

2023-2024

Welcome to Miss Brose's Kindergarten Class website!

We are so excited to welcome our students back for Trinity's 70th school year!

On this website you will be able to find a recap of what we learned the previous week, upcoming important dates and reminders, homework assignments, and resources for parents such as the school calendar and handbook.

Thank you to all our Kindergarten families for connecting to ClassDojo!

If you haven't checked out the class' page yet, it is a great place to see daily pictures and updates. You are also able to comment on pictures and send messages to me in the app.

From the student view, your child can change how their monster looks, practice typing, draw digital images, and submit photos to me.

Please keep in mind you do not have to opt into the paid portion of ClassDojo to do any of the things required for class.

February 19th - February 23rd

No School Monday, Feb. 19th in observance of Presidents Day

Recap of what we learned last week:

Bible Study - We learned the story of Jesus' "I am" statements from the Gospels and the story of Jesus Preaches at Nazareth from the Gospels

Bible Words for the week: "I am the good shepherd. I know My own and My own know Me" John 10:14

Central Truth: Jesus' "I am" statements - Jesus teaches HIs followers HIs word and how to apply that Word in our lives.

Jesus Preaches at Nazareth - Jesus, our great Teacher, teaches us and leads us to follow Him.

Grade-Level Truth: Jesus' "I am" statements - Jesus, the Great I Am, describes Himself to us and teaches us many ways He blesses and protects us.

Jesus Preaches at Nazareth - We learn in the Bible that Jesus came to bring Good News to all.

ELA - We continued working on letter teams. Two letters that work together to make a new sound. We reviewed  "ch" and "sh" listening for it at the beginning and ending of words. We even watched some videos to help us practice the sounds. We also talked about the two sounds that the letter team "th" makes. The soft (not buzzy) sound like in math and the buzzy sound like in this.

We also learned about how vowels sometimes say their name rather than their vowel sound. We learned that when there is a consonant (or a few consonants) after a vowel it will say its vowel sound - closed door, but if there are no consonants after the vowel, the vowel will say its name - open door.

Students continued practicing that sometimes letter s tries to trick us by borrowing letter z's sound. Students also learned that 's helps us to know ownership and we learned that sometimes an s at the end of the word makes it mean more than one. Students have been working to read words with 4 and 5 letter sounds. We also continued working on our "pinch and tuck" pencil hold.

Math -We are comparing objects and groups of items using the words greater than, less than, and the same as or equal. Students are working on counting and representing their teen numbers as well.

We compared the capacity of different containers noticing that sometime the container that looks tallest or widest might not hold the most.

We also began sprints this week. A sprint is a quick activity where we are trying to beat our personal best score rather than comparing to anyone else. We are also learning how to self correct our work and how it is important to be honest when correcting.

The kids were excited to show off work from our 100th day of school, our virtual mission trip to Australia, Chinese New Year, NLSW, and journal writing at the Open House on Friday night. Thank you to everyone who was able to come.
