Careers, Apprenticeships, and Post-16 Providers
Our students will develop skills in the three key aspects of careers education & guidance:
Self Development
Career Exploration
Career Management
In supporting our students to develop these skills we aim to help them navigate their way through an increasingly diverse range of qualifications both academic and vocational and beyond into an ever changing world of work. Students have the opportunity to discuss their career aspirations and the options open to them at key stages of their education and receive both hands-on and distance experience of workplaces, educational establishments and inspirational people from all walks of life.
Careers education & guidance at Miltoncross Academy supports and compliments all aspects of the curriculum ensuring students have the widest possible range of knowledge, skills and attitudes to transfer to the workplace.
Local colleges, universities, training providers and local employers all play an integral role in the programme, giving our students the opportunity to benefit from a range of experiences in and out of school.

Gatsby Benchmarks
The Gatsby Benchmarks were developed on behalf of the Gatsby Foundation by Sir John Holman, which aimed to highlight what ‘good careers work’ looked like. They provide a clear framework for organising the careers provision at Miltoncross Academy.
These benchmarks have been accepted as best practice by the Government and it is the responsibility of the Academy to oversee the implementation of the benchmarks.
The 8 Gatsby Benchmarks are:
A stable careers programme
Learning from careers and labour market information
Addressing the needs of each student
Linking curriculum learning to careers
Encounters with employers and employees
Experiences of workplaces
Encounters with further and higher education
Personal guidance
Our current performance against the Gatsby Benchmarks is:
A stable careers programme - 94% Achieved
Learning from careers and labour market information - 100% Achieved
Addressing the needs of each student- 100% Achieved
Linking curriculum learning to careers- 100% Achieved
Encounters with employers and employees- 100% Achieved
Experiences of workplaces- 100% Achieved
Encounters with further and higher education- 100% Achieved

It is our ambition that Benchmarks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 remain at 100% throughout this academic year and for Benchmarks 1 to reach 100% by the end of the academic year.
