James Thorpe

Director of Food Services

About Me: I was born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC. I started working in food service while studying in college. I transitioned into doing it full time after graduation. I've worked in restaurants, hotels, and hospitals in New Jersey. I later moved back to Rocky Mount and began working with the department of prisons for 35 years. I managed 60 people and served 1800 meals a day within that time. My positioned served Meals on Wheels, Rocky Mount Jails, and Fountain Prison. I taught employees how to cook everything from scratch and helped them gain new skills within food services and beyond. I enjoyed retirement in 2011 for four-five years. Then I began working with Nash County Schools food service in 2016. I decided to transition to The Impact Academy because I enjoy food services and supporting people. I'm excited to build value to the school and the organization. I am also excited about what I gain while I am here.

My Education: I graduated from Booker T Washington High School in Rocky Mount, NC. I studied Criminal Justice at Edgecombe Community College and Computer Science at VIA Tech Community College in Roanoke Virginia.

My Family: My wife Barbara and I married in 2003. I have a son who lives in Louisiana, two stepsons in North Carolina, and a stepdaughter-Easter who lives here in Rocky Mount. I have a combined total of 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

My Favorites: I love movies, spending time with families, cook outs, and serving the Lord.
