In 2019, with funding from the Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE), Child Care Services Association (CCSA) conducted the North Carolina Early Childhood Workforce Study. Data were collected from programs in every county across the state. This report summarizes key findings from directors, teachers, assistant teachers and family child care providers who participated. Additionally, information gathered from this study is compared to similar studies conducted by CCSA in 2015, 2014, 2011 and 2003. View the 2003 study data for comparison. The data for this study were collected prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Educators are an integral part of the child care system. It is important that these providers be considered professionals who create the very best environment for young children to grow, develop, and enter school ready to learn. CCSA offers a variety of professional development and compensation opportunities for child care providers and encourages providers to enroll in early childhood courses at local community colleges or universities.
We are dedicated to advancing the quality and affordability of early care and education for young children, their families and communities.
