Assessments & Reports

Assessments (benchmarks) are the best way for us to monitor and support the growth of each our students. We have three benchmarks that students take throughout the school year. The beginning of the year (BOY) benchmark is administered one month after our first day of school. The middle of the year (MOY) benchmark is administered in December. Lastly, our end of year (EOY) benchmark is administered in within the last three weeks of the school year.


In addition to the benchmarks, students are take an entrance exam that allows us to establish a "starting point" of their learning.

At the end of every quarter, we publish a report to provide insight to our stakeholders on all things relating to curriculum, learning, and teaching. The 2022-2023 school year reports can be found below:

Assessment FAQs

Does Class 1 and Class 2 take the benchmarks?

Yes. However, each class has a different range of skills and knowledge that will be assessed. While Class 1 will focus on foundational knowledge (identifying colors, shapes, numbers, names, etc...), Class 2 will focus on extending the foundational knowledge and kindergarten readiness (letter and sound recognition, colors, shapes, number recognition, mathematical thinking skills, etc...).

What are the academic indicators?

The academic indicators that we assess in Class 1 and Class include, but are not limited to the following indicators:

  • Approaches to Learning

  • Social Emotional Development

  • Physical Development & Health

  • Language, Literacy, & Communication

  • Mathematics

  • Creative Arts

  • Science & Technology

  • Social Studies.

These academic indicators are based on the 58 key development indicators that we explore through our High Scopes Curriculum.

How are the benchmarks evaluated?

Each of the areas is scored on a 100-point scale.

Are there any other assessments given throughout the school year?

Yes. Our teachers administer formative assessments throughout school year. Additionally, our teachers administer summative assessments on a tri-weekly basis to monitor the continuous growth of our students.

When will I receive a copy of my student's benchmark?

Families will receive a copy of their student's benchmark within a two-week period of the date the assessment was administered. To request additional copies, please email Tristan Hunter at tristan.hunter@wordtab.net
