This quarter, 8th graders studied the concept of romantic love through Shakespeare's comedies (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, and Twelfth Night), short stories (namely Vonnegut's "EPICAC"), and various informational texts giving perspective on the illusive experience of love. In the end, students wrote about each of the following questions: What makes love complicated?; Is love the result of fate or agency?; and What defines the experience of love? For their final group projects, students combined their knowledge of the readings to present a succinct answer to one of the questions.
