This quarter, 7th graders studied the power of language, from language meant to uplift such as during the Civil Rights movement to language meant to control in the novel Animal Farm and in Stalin's Russia among other historical time periods and events. At the end of the study and analysis, students produced an argumentative paper in which they answered the question: Is language more powerful when used to uplift or when used to control?
