WILDCAT WEEKLY

VOLUME 3  ISSUE 10

From the Office

Thank you to everyone who attended our first Family Engagement Night of the 2023-2024 school year.  It was great to hear conversations between families and scholars about grades, STAAR scores, and how to improve as a YMLA scholar.  We look forward to celebrating our scholars while supporting our families every six weeks.  So mark your calendars for our next Family Engagement Night on Thursday, November 9th.

Fall Break will take place from October 6th through October 9th.  In addition to scholars having off these days, our incredible teachers will also enjoy some well deserved time off.  We hope everyone is excited for this upcoming break to rest and relax before we tackle the rest of the first semester.

Jaciel, we are extremely proud of the hard work and determination that are leading you to amazing accomplishments!  Great job!

6th Grade "Teaching the Class"

Ms. Lee has been developing collaboration skills in our 6th grade scholars since the beginning of the year and scholars are becoming more comfortable in verbalizing their learning.  Recently, scholars read a fictional text, identified the text structure, explained the text structure, supported it with eveident, included signal words that confirmed their text structure and drew a picture that demonstrated the main idea.  Great job Ms. Lee and 6th grade scholars!

The Giant Waterbottle Man

The YMLA Art Department and Scholar Deshaun Raymond were interviewed by the Fort Worth Reporter about The Giant Waterbottle Man, an Artcycled Sculpture that will use 20,000 water bottles!

Engineering Field Trip

On Wednesday, September 27th, Dr. Edwards-Joubert took Engineering Scholars to Collins Aerospace to learn about the global aerospace and defense industry.  Thank you Dr. Edwards-Joubert for coordinating this experience for our scholars.

Bring a camera or a camera phone. We will take pictures, learn techniques in post processing, and create a school-wide webpage of our art. Email for more information!

Self-choice reading is the empowerment of the scholar to find out more about who they are and who they want to be. Choose a book. Read it. Share it. We will have discussions, create book trailers, and share our love of literature with each other.
