From the Office
This week may have been a short week, but the Dream Team and scholars still put in the hard work everyday. With MAP testing this week, scholars missed various classes. Encourage your scholar to check Canvas and Focus to assure he is current with every assignment. We will be hosting Thursday Night Lights in a few weeks for scholars with zeros and we don't want your scholar to wait until then to make sure he has submitted all of his assignments.

ELAR STAAR Interim Assessment
On Tuesday, January 23rd, scholars in grades 6-8, English I, and English II will be taking the ELAR STAAR Interim assessment. Interim assessments align to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills(TEKS) and help teachers monitor scholar progress and predict scholar performance on STAAR. Please help your scholar prepare by:
getting a good night's sleep
eating a healthy breakfast at home or at school
provide words of encouragement on Tuesday morning

MAP Testing
This week scholars took the MAP test in Math, Reading, and/or Science. Teachers use this data to identify areas to support scholars instructionally. The goal for scholars is to grow in their RIT score on every test administration because all scholars can demonstrate growth. Next week, in addition to the ELAR Interim Assessment, Ms. White will be pulling scholars for make-up testing for any MAP assessments that were missed or not finished. Once all tests have been administered, Ms. White will communicate scores and the instructional implications with families via email.

We are expecting another cold front next week so help your scholar be prepared for the cold while maintaining the YMLA Standard of Dress.
In addition to reviewing our Dress Code expectations, we want to give some ideas scholars have used in the past to stay warm while maintaining our Standard of Dress.
YMLA Sweaters and Sweater Vests - Middle school and high school scholars can wear the YMLA sweaters and sweater vests.
College Hoodies - On Wednesdays and Fridays, scholars are allowed to wear hoodies, but they need to be college or YMLA hoodies. Help your scholar be sure to bring their college or YMLA hoodie, not any other because scholars will be required to remove any other hoodie.
Undershirts - Wear a long sleeve shirt under their button down shirt. Click here to view long sleeve undershirts.
