Let's go through some important features in the Virtual Library that happen to be my favourite! Go to Virtual Library and check these out!
The first one is using the green button called 'Read Watch Learn' that includes a variety of "links to ebooks, databases, encyclopedias and tools" ("TDSB Virtual Library," 2024).
Some of my favourite links here include 'ProQuest' and 'JSTOR' - however, JSTOR requires a library card to access so make sure to go to a nearby one or ask your teacher for help.
Both ProQuest and JSTOR are used in Colleges and University reguarly for readings that will be assigned to you by your Professor and for research projects, so this is an excellent way to become familiar with these databases before entering post-secondary.
Explora is really fun and easy to use - it breaks down topics, subjects and offers really great results, helping you narrow down your focus quite easily and offering a citation in MLA, APA or Chicago as well. Simply choose the topic that you are studying, click on a subtopic, and click on a second-subtopic to see several results. You can also 'advance search' to really customize your results.

This resource allows you to be creative in your assignments such as using 'Book Creator' in English class to keep track of your journal writing, or using 'Adobe Express' to help you design, edit pdf and images, and create logos and much more.
The third one is using the green button called 'Français'. This resource allows you to access very similar features under the 'Read Watch Learn' but it contains all the resouces in French. We know that many of you may have a first language in French so this is an excellent way to access 'L'Encyclopédie Canadienne', 'Curio.ca' and even 'ProQuest Ebook Central' with many available ebooks in the French language.
The fourth one is using the yellow button called 'Find'. This resource allows you to find information based on subject area and grade level. We love this resource because its an excellent refresher on certain subjects such as Math, English and Science. While it only goes until the Grade 10 level, we know that many of you may have had large gaps in your education or we're apart of a different educational program that was outside of Ontario.
We really recommend checking out the 'Indigenous Studies' and 'Career Studies' option as well to help you understand Canadian History a bit better and make more informed choices in your future career paths.
To use the function correctly, we will provide an example below:
1) Go to 'Math' and click on the 'Grade 10' button2) At the top of the bar go to 'Quadratic Relations'3) Now you will be able to access a variety of resources, from textbooks, 'Learn360' Math Videos, Khan Academy Videos, and more.

Lastly, don't forget to access the button 'Passwords' to be able to log into many of the resources I have mentioned above. You will need to login with your TDSB credentials to be able to access the document on the website but can use the Virtual Library any time regardless of being in the school or at home!
