Surviving the City Vol. 1 is a great graphic novel about two friends dealing with life in the city. The story is relatable, I have a friend and whenever I read this book I remember her and the memories that we created together in my country. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars for its story and strong emotions but a little weak because of the less information that the book gives us about the characters for example the book doesn't mention what happened to parents of Dez.

The novel Betty explores the themes of Racism, Injustice, Resilience and Police neglect towards Indigenous people. The book is based on a true story of Betty Osborne. I would rate this book a 3.5 out of 5 , I recognize and appreciate the author for writing the truth and raising awareness about how the situation was with Indigenous people back then, that is very important and someone had to write the truth, but I think there is more to Betty and Indigenous women than just victims, I think she was underrepresented, I wish the book had more pages and showed us more about Betty's culture, likings and more about her life. In short if someone were to ask me what scenes i quickly remember from Betty I would say Betty left her home to go to a residential school, her boyfriend cheated on her and then she got murdered. I wish I got to know and understand Betty more as the main character in the story.

I usually don't like reading books, but The Night Wanderer is one of the books that I like because it had a mystery in every page that really attract me in as a reader to read all the book. The book is short and had a lot of pictures that explain every scene by detailed, that can be understand easily even if you have just look into the book. I would recommend this book to the adults, because it highlight the main issues that are happening with the indigenous youngers. The main message of the book is to understand the value of life and family and don't take decisions of leaving your family and community. I would rate this book 5/5.

I think that book has covered some good examples and topics for example the strugle of the Echo ( Main Character) is not only because trying to fit in new country and new culture it’s also family indifference. I think that in the book Echo’s mother should wory and try to talk to her more often. I liked the book 4/5. As I said Author could also have expressed that Echo’s mother can try to solve her problems in life together.

Surviving the City is all about the friendship of two indigenous girls and shows how they love each other and how they care about each other. and when I read this book it reminded me of my own friend.how she cares about me and she loves me and how i care about her. I remember when I was not answering my phone she was so worried about me and she just came to see me. Whenever I read this book it reminded me about my own friend and our friendship.

I'm not a huge graphic novel lover, in fact, I would much rather read a 700 page novel than a book of images and bubbles. BUT - this novel was really good at capturing some very important themes in Indigenous Canadian History and was helpful for someone who was just beginning to learn about about some of the beliefs, oral histories and important historical events related to Indigenous Peoples. The art is wondrous and I really recommend listening to the podcast to help you understand some of the stories a bit better. My favourite story in the book which also happens to be my students' favourite is "Annie of Red River", whilst the somewhat complex story "Red Clouds" was intriguing to decipher through the symbolism of the Wendigo.
A must read for those who want to learn a bit more about Indigenous History and understand the importance for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation taking place this September 30th.

I never expected this series to be SO good! Watching the movie in 2014 sparked my interest, but I was devasted when they didn't make a movie for the second book! I mean can anything really beat Vampire Diaries? But Rose Hathaway's sarcastic sense of humor and brutal honest in the books is something I totally relate to. Having a close best-friend like Vasilisa and being in her head all the time could get very annoying, but the bond they share is so special. I really recommend this series for anyone who likes an intense but humours book on vampires, I'm half way done and can't wait to read the rest!
