AP English Literature & Composition

This course provides students the opportunity to survey a wide range of literary pieces and significant works of literature in the English language.  This includes many classics and works of world authors. Since this is a course in literature and composition, there will be substantial emphasis on writing. Students will be expected to read, understand, and interpret past and present classical works of literature in English, as well as improve their writing in response to the works they read. Throughout the year, students will read and respond to several novels, stories, poems, and plays. While there are no prerequisites for this course, it is assumed that English is a strength and or passion, and that the desire to be challenged is strong. To succeed in this course, hard work and time management are essential, as well as the willingness to do the work involved in abstract thinking and participate in discussion about language. Each student is expected to contribute to a mature, intellectually stimulating classroom environment.
