The SHSM program offers senior students the opportunity to explore a specific area or career of interest, and to acquire the skills and experience that will assist them in their postsecondary pathway: apprenticeship training, college, university and the workplace. Students who successfully complete a SHSM seal of distinction have acquired the credits necessary for their specific SHSM, have completed all certifications and training, have gained practical experience through dual-credit coop, and have attended various conferences and workshops associated with their specific SHSM. Many students take part in one of the five SHSM’s available here at SJOA. 

SHSM stands for “Specialist High Skills Major” which provides a specialized focus on the students’ interest. Scholars who have the willingness and desire to gain a greater understanding about their interest, our SHSM program is for you! The SHSM programs offered are Information Technology, Arts and Culture, Health and Wellness, Automotive Technology, and Non-Profit. Mavericks that take part continually learn and strengthen their skills which helps them gain knowledge about their chosen pathway.
