STANDARD 9

Learners demonstrate their learning through performance-based assessments and have opportunities to develop self-assessment and self-monitoring skills. 

Classroom Competitions

Students in the fourth and fifth grade competed with Vex Robotics in the classroom to try to collect the most garbage from the ocean.

In addition, these students and teachers regularly engage in STEAM powered PBLs (Project Based Learning). Students are immersed in an environment where their skills are challenged through real world thinking tasks that not only enhance their STEAM learning, but also teach students about creative inquiry and healthy competition. 

Coding in Action

Students were challenged during Computer Science Education Week (December 5 - 9, 2022) to code online and try coding with their bodies. Students were able to try the code boogie in the hallway to demonstrate their understanding of the language of coding. 

Celebrating our Accomplishments

Students participate in a leadership celebration every nine weeks to celebrate their accomplishments in working toward their personal and school goals. Teachers are also celebrated in these celebrations for outstanding lessons and technology integration. In addition, the lunchroom staff,  STEAM, Music, and Physical Education classes all have awards given at the leadership celebration. Students love getting to stand and be honored for their accomplishments. The classes also enjoy the friendly competition of winning awards at the leadership celebrations.  This quarterly event is run by our student leadership team with assistance from our faculty and staff.  The student leadership team designs the celebrations and staff involvement activities. 

STEAM Student Survey Results

Students can give feedback regarding our STEAM program at MES using a Google Form at the end of each school year. You can see the 2022-2023 school year results to the left. Students learn to self-evaluation and give reflective feedback while actively participating in the learning program.
