Munford Elementary DLCS by Grade Level

Digital Literacy and Computer Science Standards

Students at Munford Elementary School are learning the Alabama Digital Literacy and Computer Science Standards (adopted in 2018). Teachers were presented with a standards map to help their students learn these standards through the school year. In addition, these standards were included as part of the teacher competition for our 2nd 9 Weeks "Working on my Roar" challenge. Also, students were engaged in STEAM lessons with the STEAM teacher to meet all of their DLCS standards for the 2022-23 school year.

Working on My ROAR

Each semester (9 week period) at Munford Elementary School, teachers are presented with a challenge to increase thier digital literacy and efficacy through the working on my ROAR challenge. Teachers are presented the challenge in an after school professional development session. Teachers are then given a choice board of activities to complete each semester. The activities are designed to positively increase teacher impact on student learning. The teachers are given a chance to earn twenty-five dollars if they complete all four letters of the challenge. In addition, the are given twenty-five dollars to spend on their classrooom for completing the challenge each semester.

Tech Try A Thon

Before there was "working on my ROAR", there was the Tech-Try-A-Thon. Similar to "Working on my ROAR" teachers were given several opportunities during the 2021-22 school year to increase their digital literacy and efficacy through this challenge. Teachers were given several options of technology and strategies to try in their classrooms. Teacher that completed the "Try" were entered in a drawing to win duty free lunch and a gift card.

Mrs. Howard (our Digital Learning Partner) has created a learning space in the most unlikely of places at Munford Elementary School. We are encouraging teachers to increase their professional capacity and learning even when they are "taking a break". Potty P.D. is changed each semester and highlights great technology uses at MES. It also includes technology tips, new technologies to try and several links to other ways to grow your professional learning network.

We are currently on our ninth issue of potty p.d.  In addition, Mrs. Howard, our Dynamic Learning Partner presented on the topic of Potty P.D. at ISTE in June 2023!

Teachers enjoy a lunch and learn Professional Development session in October 2023. The Lunch and Learn professional development session focused on enhancing educators' skills in English Language Arts (ELA), specifically reading and writing strategies. This session was designed to provide valuable insights and strategies for educators to implement in their classrooms. The primary focus of the professional development session was to improve teachers' understanding of effective reading and writing strategies, which are essential for nurturing students' language and literacy skills.
