STEAM Team
Each year Munford Elementary School is proud to host the M.E.S. STEAM team. This team of students works individually and collaboratively on several competitions in the State of Alabama.
This team of students is selected from the fourth and fifth grade at M.E.S. To be selected, students must complete a rigorous application and essay process. Students then meet during and after school to work on their projects for the Competitions.
In the 2022-23 school year, the STEAM team will compete in the Engaging Elementary Engineers (E3) Competition hosted by AMSTI, the Jacksonville State University Regional Technology Fair, and the McWane Center Celebrate Science Competition.
The STEAM team meets after school on Thursdays to practice and prepare for our three competitions. Below are some photos of our after school meetings from the 2022-23 school year.
Students on the STEAM team compete in regional and state competitions. This year's regional competition was hosted by Jacksonville State University on February 27, 2023. The ACTE (https://www.alabamaconsortiumfortechnologyineducation.org/) Technology fair is where students can demonstrate thier knowledge of technology and how it affects the world around us! This year we had 22 out of 26 place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at the regional technology fair! These students will compete at the state level on April 19, 2023.
STEAM Team
(previous years)
In the 2021-2022 school year, the STEAM team had 24 students. 15 of these students placed in either first or second place at the JSU Regional Tech fair. This automatically qualified these students for the ACTE (Alabama Consortium for Technology in Education) State Technology fair.
Since the 2019-2022 school year the JSU Regional Tech Fair has been virtual. Students have recorded their competition videos, and through an unlisted link on YouTube, shared with the judges for the competition.

Sharing our Talents
In the month of Decemeber, Munford Elementary School hosted a PTA (Parent Teacher Association) meeting in conjunction with a 3rd grade musical performance. Mr. Sisco, our music teacher, practiced for several weeks with the third grade students and teachers to take us on a musical journey around the world. Students were encouraged to dress in costumes for the PTA and parent performance. Not only did the 3rd grade students perform at the evening meeting, the entire school was invited to watch the performance on our school wide pajama day! It was a wonderful showcase of student learning and talent.
In addition to a grade level performing, Mr. Sisco (our music teacher) also works with the Munford Elementary Choir. The choir performed an amazing Veteran's Day program and also performed at the Munford Community Christmas Parade.
The Munford Elementary school archery practices before school each day in the gymnasium. The archery team is a select group of fourth and fifth graders that is sponsered by Heather McMorris and Noel Stephens, our physical education teachers. The students compete against other archers in our county, regional, and they have even qualified for the state competition.
The STEAM team, comprised of 22 fourth and fifth-grade students, demonstrated remarkable skill and innovation at the Region 4 ACTE technology fair held on March 1, 2024. Impressively, 12 students secured their spots at the state level by clinching first or second place in various categories.
With their exceptional talents and dedication, the team is now geared up to compete in the Engaging Elementary Engineers competition scheduled for March 7, 2024. Their success at the regional level speaks volumes about their capabilities, and they are poised to excel further on the state stage. The STEAM team's commitment to excellence and passion for innovation are commendable, and we eagerly anticipate their achievements in the upcoming competition.
