Yuhan Shao

Yuhan Shao is currently a second-year M.A. student in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College. Her research interests include computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, and second language assessment. Some topics that she is particularly interested in are Natural Language Processing (NLP), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), and using NLP and ASR tools to develop systems for automatic scoring for speaking in second language assessments. Her career goal is: To work in testing companies to develop automatic speaking scoring systems and to improve existing systems in better recognition of spontaneous speech produced by language learners with varying proficiency levels, especially with the problems of disfluencies in pronunciation and grammar.
