Topic: Courage in the Lives of the Characters from When You Reach Me (Summer Reading Project Presentation)
Goal:
I can orally present and explain my character analysis.
Essential questions:
How do characters in literature demonstrate courage, and what can their actions teach us about courage in our own lives?
Standards:
RL.7.3: Analyze how particular elements of a story interact (e.g., how setting shapes the characters or plot).
RL.7.6: Analyze how an author develops and contrasts the points of view of different characters or narrators in a text.
SL.7.4: Present claims and findings, emphasizing salient points in a focused, coherent manner with pertinent descriptions, facts, details, and examples.
SL.7.6: Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate.

Students will take turns to present their summer reading oral project.

In Grandfather’s Garden, the narrator and her grandfather build a closer relationship by spending time together in the garden. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 17:6 that “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”
