Read the mentor text toghether, find unknown words and discuss it.
In the story Grandfather’s Garden, the narrator grows closer to her grandfather while spending time together in his garden. Think about a special memory or experience you’ve had with your grandfather (or another older family member).

How is your experience similar to or different from the narrator’s experience in the story?

In Grandfather’s Garden, the narrator and her grandfather build a closer relationship by spending time together in the garden. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 17:6 that “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”
