Circular Transportation
[Environmental conscious life begins with food, clothing, housing, transportation, and entertainment]: How to create a circular economy in transportation
“In 2030, circular economy can lower lifelong carbon emission of vehicles by 75%. ” —World Economic Forum
According to the survey, average use of people possessing cars is only 5% and in the rest of the time, the cars are not used. With the rise of sharing platform, the use of resources aims to be upgraded. In the Netherlands, in 2015, only 1/3 of cars were sold to the final consumers. Number of contracts of private rental cars was twice more than that of the previous year. The two trends showed that it was not common to possess vehicles for mobile demand since we do not purchase a plane to fly to New York.
With the progress of information communication technology, it is not impossible to integrate the platforms of public transportation, public transportation of small and medium vehicles and sharing. It results in the rise of MaaS which can be defined as “the use of a digital interface to control and manage transportation related service in order to satisfy each consumer’s demand of mobility”. The purpose is to create more convenient, reliable and economic transportation service. It can improve transportation and upgrade the service of resource efficiency. It will be important practice of circular economy of transportation.
The following are the examples of circular transportation in Taiwan:
Technology of innovative internet of vehicle significantly increases the use of motorcycles
WeMo Scooter integrates hardware and software power and provides the rental service of electric scooters of 24 hours “without specific return places”. By the developed scooter internet, we can see the availability of scooters in the neighborhood with WeMo Scooter APP. With the new transportation model, the consumers can freely commute and move in the city without purchasing the vehicles and it significantly increases the use of scooters.
There are more than 13 million scooters in Taiwan and it means 378 scooters of every square kilometer. However, daily use of each scooter is less than 50 minutes. WeMo Scooter aims to create smart service to increase the use of vehicles.
Because of the progress of information communication technology, sharing scooters are gradually popular around the world.
In 2021, there will be 35 million drivers who use vehicle sharing in the world.
Education market changes from vehicle ownership to sharing use rights and creates new circular value of transportation
WeMo Scooter service shows new business model and service and daily turnover rate of each scooter is at least 15 times. Besides the increase of resource use efficiency, it introduces the division of “ownership” and “usage rights”. Using the convenient service does not mean the ownership of real right and it can reduce the expenditures such as the following maintenance.
Circular effect
1.In 2019, carbon dioxide was reduced for more than 1,200 metric tons.
2.It provides the government with related transportation figures for the construction of smart programs.
Collaboration circulation from wasted tire to diving suit
Enrestec developed the technology of pyrolysis and recycled the wasted tire by recycling concept and tire industry (Kenda, Hankook) and transformed it into environmental carbon black. It was used to textile industry (SHEICO group) for cross-field collaboration. Wastes were transformed into new material and it constructed the foundation of trust and validation among the companies by industrial chain of circular economy.
Raw materials of tire in Taiwan are almost 100% imported. The piled wasted tires cause the environmental issue. The main reason to support R&D of the technology of pyrolysis of Enrestec is to lead to high-value resources of wasted tires in order to avoid the waste pollution in the environment and reduce the waste of imported resources.
The only successful business chemical pyrolysis plant to deal with wasted tires in the world.
Collaboration circulation from wasted tires to functional fabrics and clothes.
The best strategies are to increase brand value and use sustainable materials
Tire industry consumes energy and environmental impact caused by wasted tires directly influences corporate business. In recent years, top enterprises are engaged in the research on circulation and reuse. In CSR, they claim to use 80% sustainable materials on tires and reusable rate is 100%.
Enrestec transformed wasted tires into cracked oil, carbon black, combustible gas and wire. Recycled carbon black can 100% replace traditional carbon black. SHEICO group is well-known manufacturer of diving suit in the world and it produces diving suits by environmental carbon black of Enrestec. The concept to use recycled carbon black is accepted by the clients. In the future, it aims to provide the solution of circular economy of rubber industry to Southeast Asia, Europe and America.
Circular effect
Recycled carbon black (carbon emission is 671.5 kgCO2e/ton) and cracked oil (carbon emission is 479.9 kgCO2e/kiloliter), in comparison to traditional carbon black, fuel oil, result in the reduction of 80%~90% carbon emission.
New value of manufacturing of seats of automobile
Uni Auto Parts Manufacture Co., Ltd., upon the objective to increase resource efficiency of materials of seats of automobile, aims to recognize the costs of consumption and waste by the manufacturing process of the enterprises in order to quantify the focus of improvement and engage in the strategies to help the company lower cost and increase profits, enhance the competitiveness of business operation and environmental image. Thus, it results in optimal resource efficiency of materials of seats and creates new value of manufacturing process.
Uni Auto Parts Manufacture Co., Ltd. integrates the upstream material suppliers, fulfills effective reuse of resources, adjusts materials of manufacturing, reduces consumption of manufacturing, promotes green manufacturing and pursues sustainable development of the business.
Create more innovative technology for green, environmentally friendly and best ergonomic seats.
The fibers from pineapple leaves can be used to make vegetable fiber leather.
Avoidance of consumption of cutting of skin of seats
Uni Auto Parts Manufacture Co., Ltd. analyzes the economic value of seats of automobiles by Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) for statistical analysis of principal materials, assisted materials, energy resources, system process, loss of waste, constructs MFCA framework of skin cutting of seats and recognizes the loss of the process by MFCA framework to find the origin of wastes.
From management of seat manufacturing to material flow cost of manufacturing
Uni Auto Parts Manufacture Co., Ltd. MFCA team focuses on the avoidance of “waste” of material flow process and the objective is to increase use efficiency of manufacturing resources. By material flow process of manufacturing, it evaluates the investment and output of the sources and systematically increases the effect of management of material flow cost of manufacturing of seats.
Circular effect
The vehicle type of the assisted project is successively introduced to other vehicle types and manufacturing. Around NTD 700,000 can be saved in a year.
Various parts for automotive equipment are developed with eco-friendly technology.
The advantages of green products are explained by exhibiting at the show.
