[Environmental conscious life begins with food, clothing, housing, transportation, and entertainment]:Develop good eating habits in daily life!
As the saying goes, “Food is the most important thing for people.” In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, the most basic need to meet is physiological needs, which shows how important food is in our lives. Since we eat every day, how can we eat to reduce the burden on the earth?
Establish a community leftover food kitchen to recycle ugly vegetables and fruits from the vegetable market and provide meals at their own price six days a week.
About one-third of the world’s grain is wasted, an equivalent of 1.3 billion tons per year.
“Use what to eat” to be closer to an environmentally-friendly life
A.OFoodin— reusable takeaway food bag, Pockeat—bento box in pocket
These are environment-friendly “containers” specially designed for takeout friends. When we take out food, we will find that the store often uses disposable plastic products to contain food. Whether it is an OFoodin or a Pocketat, the advantage is that it can be filled with food directly in and heated, and it is also convenient to carry. From egg cakes at breakfast to Tofu Pudding in afternoon tea, to fried rice at dinner, with it, we will reduce the use of many plastic bags in a day.
B.BesoVida eco-bowls
Maybe some people are not used to eating with the environment-friendly bags mentioned above. This product is very suitable for you. This is an environmentally-friendly, safe, and plastic-free bowl, while being especially light.
C.Elephant Cuppa
Everyone has ever bought a hand-shake drink outside, but not everyone will use an environment-friendly cup. There may be many reasons why you don’t use it. It may be that the capacity is not large enough, the cup is not easy to clean, or you need to use a plastic straw to suck the milk when you buy it into the cup. The reason why the Elephant Cuppa is so popular is that it has a large capacity of 700cc, and the large diameter makes it easy to clean, and it also has two kinds of straws (no matter what kind of environment-friendly cup it is, remember to use it when buying drinks outside to play its role!)
The pickled juice of vegetables and fruits that was previously discarded in the processing, the residue such as fruit dregs and fibers after juice extraction, these residue could be transferred to other manufacturers to be developed into more foods, such as soft candy, jelly, fruit crisps, enzymes, etc., so as to realize the circular economic benefits of whole fruit and whole food.
Biovessel is a household kitchen waste processor that does not need to be plugged in, which can ensure that the organisms in the container can be efficiently decomposed in the most appropriate environment. It can easily recycle the daily vegetable and fruit kitchen waste, making the naturally generated fertilizer become the nutrient of new plants.
“How to eat” can be closer to an environment-friendly life
A.Low-carbohydrate diet
The low carbohydrate diet refers to the minimum greenhouse gas emissions in the whole life cycle of the food. There is a documentary called “Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret,” which mentions that one kilogram of beef will consume 150000 liters of water, and each kilogram of beef will also produce 26.5 kilograms of carbon dioxide. To reduce the carbon footprint, in addition to eating less meat, you can also eat some foods that are less destructive to the earth, such as peas, nuts, tofu, tomatoes, cauliflower, etc.
B.Choose seasonal and local food materials
Transportation will increase greenhouse gas emissions. If we choose local food, we can reduce the use of transportation.
C.Eat more original food
Eating more original food can reduce additional additives, such as salt, soy sauce, and sugar, which can not only reduce the processing process but also reduce the burden on the body.
Recycle ugly fruits and vegetables, instant products, defective packaging products, and good by-products in the food production process, and use them as much as possible with innovative ideas to diet in life.
Carrefour set up “instant products and Food for Good special area” in all Taiwan branch stores. Since 2014, more than 60 food banks across Taiwan collaborated to establish the “Alliance of Taiwan Food Banks” and set up an ifoodbank website to coordinate food donations efficiently.
It’s OK to drink bottled water, even drink the bottle!
In order to reduce the impact of plastic bottles on the environment for a long time, three British students from the Department of Industrial Design invented the “edible” environment-friendly water balls Ooho. Ooho is a water ball wrapped within a gelatinous membrane that can be bitten to supplement water after being put into the mouth. Ooho is a gelatinous membrane formed by combining the alginate extracted from seaweed with calcium chloride, which can also be naturally decomposed in the environment. It is not only drinking bottled water but also having the water together with the package. Last year, the government banned shopkeepers from offering free plastic. Although many people are willing to pay 1 NTD for convenience, this move has already made more people pay attention to environmental protection issues and understand the necessity to begin reducing the use of plastic bags. Recently, many stores have introduced paper straws to reduce the use of plastic straws. There are many people on earth who are doing their best to protect the environment. No matter what your idea is, let’s start taking our own “environmental protection outfit” out tomorrow.
Say goodbye to the PET bottle! Ooho, the “edible” water ball!
Skipping Rocks Lab hopes to make people understand the environmental benefits of Ooho water ball through the activity.
