Wiley and the Hairy Man

Between 2011 and 2017, Chaparral theatre produced three shows that were featured at the American High School Theatre Festival as part of the Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland. Wiley and the Hairy Man was the last show in that time frame that toured abroad. After first touring a musical, then an original show, it was decided to bring a theatre for youth script that offered opportunities for lots of ensemble work with a minimal set and shadow play/projections. Initially, the thought was to bring a children's show because the venue was right next to a school, but unfortunately, our group was placed in a venue that was not in the best locations to bring in local school children groups as originally planned.

Mr. Alberto Allende also wrote underscoring that he played through most of the show with students accompanying with an accordion and a washboard. The show was staged in preparation twice at the school. Once in the auditorium to approximate the original venue that the group thought it would be shown and then again later in the summer in the black box to be closer to the space that the group ended up performing.
