The CS4000 spring is attached to the stainless steel wires! The patient HAS TO BE in stainless steel wires when a CS4000 spring is placed 19x25 upper and 16x25 lower. Any other wire would not be strong enough and the strength of the spring would negatively affect tooth position and root position of both arches.
CS4000 springs are stronger and more efficient than elastic wear and can enhance or correct facial features, i.e prominent, strong chin and lower jaw
The lower arch must be wire tied lower 4-4. If this is not done, large spaces can open up in between the 3's and 4's where the springs are attached.
The spring is placed on the upper in between the 5's and 6's and the lower between the 3's and 4's. This is always the case unless told otherwise!!
The spring size is always decided by the doctor, make sure to confirm before the springs are placed. Always chart what spring sizes are used for reference.
Once the springs are placed they are not removed until they are done working, which can take time. They should come in for regular adjustments every 6 weeks for photos and to check on the springs. ***The springs are flexible and the patient has to be very careful to not distort the spring or its effectiveness.*** In some cases, the springs may have to be replaced and the patient can be charged if the springs are being abused.
Typically we will over correct to CL II because we tend to see slight relapse. Once the bite is corrected. The springs will be removed and the patient will get a pano repo appointment and then detailing in the finishing wires for 4-6 months. The patient will continue to wear full CL III elastics to help relapse while still in braces (The elastics "replace" the springs at this point in treatment).
After debond, the patient will get permanent retainers as normal, clear retainers, and a DAMON SPLINT!! The Damon Splint is what holds the jaw in place for 1 year + after the braces are removed to ensure we do not have severe relapse.
Follow up visits post treatment will be decided by the doctor, but we love to see the patients every 6months to a year for retention visits and progress photos :)
