B o x E l a s t i c s
This configuration is used to help the contact of the upper teeth and the lower teeth. It helps settle the bite together. This configuration is only used after the molar relationship is class I. This configuration is usually always used with Moose and towards the end of treatment
S h o r t y C l a s s I I
This configuration is implemented at the first appointment (initial bonding) or if the patient has an .013CuTi or .014CuTi wire. We use a quail elastic (our lightest elastic) that is attatched from the drop in hooks on the U4's down to L6's.
F u l l C l a s s I I
This configuration is used when a patient is in a .018CuTi or thicker. It is attatched from the drop in hook of the U3's or a hook that is crimped on the wire (do not crimp hook on wires unless you are in a finishing wire) and then attatched to the L6's.
6 -4 -3
This type of elastic is typically used in SS wires only. It starts at the upper first molar, both ends of the elastic drop down and around the lower 4 bracket or drop in hook, and end back up on the crimpable hook in between the 2 and 3. This configuration helps close the bite, or keep the bite together in the posterior.
Rainbow
This elastic starts on the lower left 3, both ends come up and around the drop in (or crimpable hooks) on the upper 1's and then back down the the lower right 3. This elastic can be started in light wires, with light elastics. This helps close the anterior bite and extrude the upper teeth.
T r i a n g l e s
Typical triangle elastics are started at the upper 3's, either on the hooks or the 3 brackets themselves, and go down to the lower 3's and 4's. Make sure all drop in hooks are in place before placing Wire-tie or powerchain.
Remember: Elastics are used to correct the bite and can slightly change facial features, but it DOES NOT change facial features skeletally!
SHORTY CLASS III
This configuration is implemented at the first appointment (initial bonding) or if the patient has an .013CuTi or .014CuTi wire. We use a quail elastic (our lightest elastic) that is attatched from the drop in hooks on the L4's down to U6's.
