A torquing sling is used when teeth are flared and we are trying to tip the crowns down to over come the flaring. To place the sling, if it is on the upper, cut a 6 link piece of powerchain. Start by linking the power chain around the 3 and make sure the mathieu is secure around the last link of powerchain. Stretch the powerchain underneath the the upper 2-2brackets, or towards the incisal edge, then connect the remaining piece of powerchain to the opposite 3 bracket.
If you are placing a torquing sling on the lower the only thing that changes is using a 5 link of powerchain because the teeth are smaller, so the 6 links is typically not enough force.
If the patient is in Stainless steel wires and the sling is only upper 3-3. then you would place k-ties as usual. If there is spacing in the posterior, you can powerchain starting at the molar like usual, connect around the 5,4,3 sling the upper 2-2, and connect back at the 3,4,5,6. In this situation, k-ties are not necessary.
There are different variations of the torquing sling depending on the situation so if you are unsure you can always confirm with the doctor or your clinical lead.
