Extended Blind Contour

Inside Out

Sharpie, Colored Pencils, and Oil Pastels on Bristol Board

9"x12"

Artist Statement:

The main idea that guided my artwork was figuring out how to balance pattern, color, and unity. I wanted this piece to be abstract, colorful, and have lots of patterns. I also wanted to utilize the background to the best of my ability and make it very colorful and bright. I wanted this piece to remind me of a Doctor Seuss book.

The materials I used for this project were a Sharpie on Bristol Board to make the initial blind contour lines, then I connected the lines and added more with Sharpie again. Then I colored in and added patterns to the different parts using oil pastels, colorful fine point sharpies, colorful thick point sharpies, and colored pencils.

To make my art piece I started with my blind contour lines. Then I connected the lines and added more to create unity. Then I added color and pattern using multiple different materials. I used colored pencils to show circular lines to show texture. I didn't use any resources or reference photos and I just focused on using as much color and pattern as I could.
