Artist Statement:

For this unit, the main idea was to achieve realism with blending, shading, and contrast.

For this unit, I used multiple different materials, including graphite pencils for sketching, or creating the boxes for the perspective project. I also experimented with colored pencils, markers, and watercolor in the shaded spheres project. I also used a gel pen to add highlights to my final candy still life.

During this unit, I focused on perspective and shading to provide a realistic effect. For the candy still life, I mainly focused on layering the colored pencils to add dimension to the image, making it more realistic. I also experimented with burnishing the colored pencil which is the opposite, and instead of lightly layering, you push hard to create a bold image, which helps to push the contrast. I also practiced a lot of blending throughout this unit and tried different techniques to get those clean, blended lines.
