Under The Sea

Ink, watercolor paper, graphite pencil, and black pen.

9" x 6"

Artist Statement:

When I saw this ink drop I immediately saw a turtle and thought it would be so cool to make an under-the-sea drawing with the turtle as the main drawing. I love the ocean and all ocean animals and I thought it would be really fun to draw all the different sea creatures and plants.

The materials I used were India ink, a 2h graphite pencil to sketch, a black pen to outline, and a piece of watercolor paper.

To make my artwork I started with choosing the ink drop. After looking over all the ink drops and trying to think of ideas I kept coming back to the same drop and thinking it looked just like the shell and head of a sea turtle. I loved this idea and started looking up images of all the different sea creatures. I looked up images of a sea turtle to get the pattern just right on the fins, I looked up a puffer fish, coral, different types of fish, seastars, and seaweed. I sketched all of my creatures and went over all my lines with a black pen. Finally, I erased all my pencil marks and I was done!
