Photogram

Guccigang

The backdrop of my creation is to be inspired by a famous photographer, combine it with your own style, then make a collage out of it and then make it to a photogram. So I was inspired by Irving Penn. He is famous for his sport but especially for his fashion.

First I start cutting out models with colorful clothes on. Then I cut the heads from animals out. After testing if it looks good together I had to find something more massive so that the models aren’t “flying” in the picture. So I was looking for something but at this moment I had no idea for what. After striving through magazines to magazines I found it: A razor advertising . I cut two patterned colored ones and clued them on the left up and right down corner. Then I found a model that was based on a car. I cutted the car with the headless model out and I then stuck them so that the car is connected to the two patterned blocks. I was just closing the magazine when I saw an advertisement with a big banana peel in the middle. I was really fascinated because it rarely happens that you really find such a picture of a whole banana. So of course I had to cut it out. I just had the problem to use it...When I almost resigned myself to not incorporating my discovery into my picture, I found it: the Gucci advertisement. I just saw the word gucci and knew what I had to do. So I cut it and stick it on. Then I remembered the banana peel again and put it quickly on the gucci snippet before the glue was dry. Before the next lesson I went to the art room, took a picture of my picture and sent it to myself via e-mail. The next step was at the computer where I printed my picture on photogram paper. Which I had to do twice so it was strong enough for the photogram. After this was done, we went in the classroom into the "dark room" and I developed my work by letting it shine for 4 seconds and then let it run through the development process. Later, I just had to let it dry overnight.

So mainly I just wanted to do something interesting with fashion with this picture. So, like Irving Penn, I put the models on a simpler background and brought in the funk from my side. I then glued my models together a bit and played with the room and the heights. So if you look at my picture, you see it as a Rule of Thirds.

Since we should just be inspired and not copy, I added my own style: the funk. The colors, the animal heads, the banana peel, the blocks and the gucci sign. That's what spits my life back so nice. I'm a bit of a chaotic but still calm. I like to make it interesting so that when someone looks at my work, they can come to a conclusion and everyone can see a story or a statement behind it. I like to do my things “to talk". But one thing that I criticize about my picture is that I could cut it out a lot better.
