The Growing Hand

My artwork is made out of Plaster. We mixed alginate and filled it into old yogurt cups. I put my fist into it, let it dry, took my hand out and filled it up with the plaster mass that Mr. medsker mixed together. I let it dry and took my hand out of the cup. Mr. Medsker was so nice and removed the dried alginate from it, so that it could dry on the air over night again. The next class I removed left over of the alginate, tried to find away to fixed the broken fingers and I finally had the idea to make a plant out of it. I wanted to connect my human hand with the nature. So I looked at home for a plant pot, cut a few plants strands of my plant, filled the pot with earth (that I stole out of another pot at home bc we didn’t had new earth anymore) and brought that to my next class. There I put my fist in the ground and squeezed the plant's roots between my open fangs. To spice things up a bit I "lacquered" the nails red.

My inspiration was a movie I saw once when I was a kid, where a hand came out of a grave and grabbed a child. Yes it was scary so it is stuck in my head. But that was all what I saw when I looked at the fist. I tried to make it not scary, so I put a plant in it, so that it came something nice, that the fist is supporting the plant to grow. It's like the hand grows out of the earth together with the plant. So it shows that we human are connected to the nature. We grow, the plants grow too, we reproduce, the plants reproduce, so why killing them? Why can we not live together with them? Nature is beauty.

So I am proud that I find a way to make my trauma in a nice message. Next time I just have to go around this blockade quicker, so I have more time to add more things, like colouring the pot, or making an more interesting pot on my own.
