Ballet Gesture Drawings

These sketches were completed quickly, each taking about one to three minutes. I worked with an ink pen so I would not be tempted to erase or think too much about what I was doing, and so I would have to work with the imperfections that were sure to occur.

I used reference photos of Margot Fonteyn, and worked to capture her expressions and poses with quick lines and scribbles. I knew that these drawings would not be perfect, but they were an exercise in developing my ability to quickly capture an image, as well as encouraging me to produce bolder lines.
