Ink Heart

Bristol

9 x 6

I incorporated random drops of ink into my drawing, working to make them seem less out of place. I had the idea of transforming the ink drops into liquid coming out of a heart. The lines were inspired by an EKG.

I began using an ink pen to match the India ink splattered across the page. I actually like black and white for this drawing, and did not move on to any other materials. I used the edge of a book to get the straight lines in the background and the two lines running diagonally across the page.

Once I started to draw the heart I knew I wanted the entire page to be exclusively black and white, since I really liked the contrast of the dark ink on a white page. The little "explosion" around the heart is meant to be a pulse, and the lines in the background were inspired by the lines of an EKG. I ended up making them straight instead of including peaks because I wanted the curves around the heart to be in focus.
