A Flower Cute as a Kitten, Mean as a Shark

Drawing Paper

9 x 12

I was prompted to draw a flower that was as cute as a kitten, but as mean as a shark. I initially started by drawing flowers, and then moved on to incorporate the "cute" and "mean" elements.

I used graphite pencils, gradually using softer lead. I also used my fingers to smudge the background and the edges of the "box" that the shark is coming out of.

I was a bit stumped by the prompt, so I began by drawing some flowers. The petals covering the shark's eyes were initially supposed to be teeth, but I ended up making them more floral, to tie the shark and the flowers together. The little guys scattered throughout are the "cute" element. They are inspired by a film and appear frequently in my drawings. The background (the box, leaves, and eyes) came into place after the initial elements, and are also motifs that I regularly draw.
