Covid-19 Visual Response: "Stop the Spread, Stay at Home"
Colored Pencils and Watercolor on Drawing Paper
9" x 12"
This piece is a message that even our small action of staying home during this time can have a global impact. For each and every one of us that temporarily gives up a little freedom, another person won't be exposed, a doctor won't have to work nonstop in unsafe conditions, and another life could be saved. The juxtaposition of the earth and the mask is to show how something that seems so insignificant actually has much larger influence. There are feathers sprouting from the people's arms, because those who decide to prioritize the safety of so many others over their personal lives are truly angels. The words on this drawing "Stop the Spread, Stay at Home" are simple and memorable, reflecting how easy and simple it is to follow this suggestion. For this piece, I wanted to use a dark background to make the images stand out and to make the composition more simplistic as a whole to reflect my message. Some things I'd like to improve upon in a future drawing are to plan out my space and materials better for the writing. I ended up not having the writing as neat or straight as I would've liked and I underestimated the difficulty of writing the letters in the paint that I chose as watercolor tends to bleed.
