height: 5.5 inches
width: 3 inches
length: 3 inches
main idea:
create a cylynder that I could drink out of and have anatomically correct organs on it.
how was it made:
covered the golfball cylinder in newspaper
rolled out a slab to cover the cylinder
cut out a bottom for the cylinder and used slip to seal it on the bottom
painted 3 coats of glaze used sgraffito to make the organ patern
artist statement:
this is my first project of ceramics so it has its flaws I think the shape is a little wonky compared to what I had in mind, but the overall piece came out good compared to my sketch. I love human anatomy so this is inspired by that love. the most challenging part was probably the little details in the sgraffito like the crack in the bone or the little veins in the eye. to make this piece I first sketched the organ design and created the cylinder pot, then I had to use three layers of glaze let it dry, bisque fire then put a clear glaze on top and it was fired again.
