main idea:

my sister loves frogs and I wanted to make her smile when she saw it.

how its made:

the body and mushroom hat are fully made of clay and were sculpted with clay sculpting tools.

artist statement:

I decided to create this piece because, my little sister and I have been obsessed with frogs for a while now.  The frog itself was only difficult to make I feel because I couldn't just create a ball and add arms and legs rather I had to have a hole in the piece because it was going to be fired. Once you get the hang of working with the clay it is a lot easier though, I used some tools from 4th grade that my art teacher taught me about pinch pots to create the majority of the body so again that made the task less difficult. another challenge was not smooshing the whole project while adding the mushroom hat, I had the mushroom hat in my sketch before I made the frog and wanted to recreate it.

there are some bumps and small balls of clay in some crevices in the frog that I have since been able to help not let happen in my recent work that I use clay with. the sgaffito is in the flowers and was much more difficult to get polished even lines in such an organic shape compared to the slab that I had worked on previously. also the fingers and toes of this art piece look slightly warped but I think it gives George some personality.

From George to my most recent pieces I personally can see a difference in technique and quality. But, for my first project like this in a new school i think my sculpture was well executed and very close to the sketch I made prior to making this peice.
