Sustained Investigation #13

The main idea that guided this artwork is wanting to do a test run of a comic panel to see what a good process would be and to see how long it would take me so I could estimate how much time a whole page would take. In this particular piece two characters are shown, one of the main characters AJ, and a semi-sentient plant alien that was also present in a previous SI. I was actually inspired by the iconic panels from the Peanuts comic strip were Charlie Brown and Linus are leaning on a brick wall side by side and have a mildly depressing conversation were Charlie Brown is having a problem and Linus offers advice.  In this case AJ is wondering if she is ever going to make it back to Earth and the Alien says something inkompresibel to her in an Alien language. Given her personality she assumes this is some sort of good advice and thanks it while cracking a joke.  There is some humor in venting out your problems to a walking tree that speaks gibberish. 

This piece was first sketched out as a thumbnail on paper along with a few others with pencil. Because I liked the concept for this one so much I went over it with black gel pen to define the forms. Finally I transferred the skech to the digital program procreate to a proper skech. This is the point where I realized I had lost my stylist that I use to draw everything digitally. After practically tearing apart my room it seams to be gone for good so this digital piece was drawn entirely using my pointer finger on a tablet screen. That was far from the best, soothest, or fasted way to draw but I still managed to make that work despite the fact that I find the end result sub-par with what I could have made because a tablet has no regard for line weight when drawing with your finger. Anyway after slowly getting the sketch and lineart done, I picked a color pallet and fille everything in, then added final details. 

I had a few differnt ideas for full comic pages, but seaing that I'll dedicate my to that for the finall SI, I desiced to do a what could be considered a one pannel comic for this project. I had a few differnt ideas with a few differnt charicters. I setteled for this one because of the Penuts refrence and because it really displays the chricters personality (also I like drawing aliens).
