In this project, my partner Joy and I studied acceleration due to gravity based on a planets mass and radius. We started this project by making different models that showed our knowledge of the planets without any research elements. Our first model consisted of the planets order from the sun. We then proceeded to make models and added a new element to each new model. When we reached the fourth model, we made an equation to find gravity and predicted what it would be for planet x. Then, we made one last model that explained four different phenomenons. We applied all the information we learned to then find different planets time periods and the amount that we would weigh on them.
Model 2: This is one of the first models that consists of the planets order from the sun and their size to scale. Mr. Williams gave us a table with the planets size and some other elements but we were unable to research anything else at this time.
Model 5: This model explains multiple phenomenons and has many different equations in it. We used these equations to find the time period and amount we would weigh on planet x and planet y.
Content:
Equation used to find the acceleration due to gravity on a planet - (ag = m/r²)
Equation used to find force of gravity on a planet - (F = Gm1m2/r²)
Equation used to find the orbit period of a planet - (T = 2πd/v)
Equation used to find force of mass on something that has gravity - (F = mag)
Reflection:
Throughout this project, I had great communication skills and learned to work with someone new. I had only worked with Joy in a big group before so it was very interesting working alone with her. This made me communicate more because we had no idea what one another was like. Although I did fine in this area, I need to work on being more creative. This project forced me to use my past knowledge and I think that I could have added to it a little bit more by using that knowledge to come up with an idea outside of the box. Besides that factor, I think that this was an extremely successful project.
