Intro:
In this essay, we had two choices of what to write about. We could either write about whether or not Native American mascots were a source of pride or whether or not Columbus Day should be replaced by Indigenous Peoples' Day. I chose to fight for Indigenous Peoples' Day because I wanted it to become a holiday. I thought that this would be a great step in American history and would show the world how lucky we are to have these people in our country.
Reflection:
Overall, this project taught me a lot about myself. It showed me what I excelled at as well as what I need to work on. For example, I used critical thinking to determine what topic I would choose and what side I would be on. I gathered evidence from websites and Indigenous People to come to a reasonable argument about why Indigenous Peoples' Day should replace Columbus Day. Although I did well in this area, I soon realized that I need to work on being a conscientious learner. For example, whenever we had class time to work on our essay, I tended to be off task and leave myself with homework. Next essay, I am going to be more focused and not procrastinate as much. I am thankful for how much this project has taught me about myself and am excited to improve my skills.
